A toolkit that arrives by import is read-only for two reasons; each has its own fix:

  • The imported snapshot is a named snapshot - snapshots are always read-only; only the tip of a track can be edited. In Process Center open the toolkit and check whether the track has a tip ("Current"): if the twx was exported from a snapshot the tip exists and you can edit it after Open in Designer on the track, not on the snapshot. If the export was a snapshot-only package, create a new track from the snapshot (Process Center > toolkit > Snapshots > snapshot menu > New Track / "Create new track from this snapshot") and edit that track's tip.
  • Missing write permission - Process Center > toolkit > Manage > Administration: grant Write (or Admin) to your user / group. The importing user is not automatically an administrator of the toolkit.
  • System toolkits (System Data, UI Toolkit, Content Management, Dashboards, ...) are read-only by design; copy the artifacts you want to change into your own toolkit (right-click > Copy Items to).
  • Toolkit opened through a dependency - when you open a toolkit from the Toolkits panel of a process app you see the snapshot the app depends on, always read-only; open the toolkit from the Process Center Toolkits tab instead.

Governance note: if the toolkit came from another organisation (vendor toolkit), keep it read-only and put your changes into a wrapper toolkit that depends on it - re-importing the vendor's next version then does not overwrite your work.
