A Variant is a saved set of configuration values for a control. The toolkit's controls have many options (label placement, sizes, color style, icons...); a variant lets you define a combination once and apply it to many instances by name, so the whole app looks the same and a change is made in one place.

  • Define: place the control on a coach and configure it; in the control's Configuration tab the Variant dropdown lists the existing variants and Manage variants creates a new one from the current values.
  • Apply: select a variant in the dropdown; every option that the variant defines is set (and shown in italics as coming from the variant); overriding an option locally is still possible.
  • Scope: variants are stored in the project that owns the control's usage; put shared ones into your house-style toolkit so that every app sees them.

Typical variants: "Primary action button" (color style P, icon, block width), "Read-only text" (label left, disabled), "Compact table" (page size 10, no footer), "Danger delete button". They are a design-time feature (no runtime API); at run time the control simply has the resolved option values.
