A Team is defined by either specifying static members as users or Groups, Groups can be Internal Groups or LDAP Groups of users. The other way is through a Team Retrieval Services which is responsible for populating the members of the Team dynamically at Run Time. Teams extend and Replace Participant Groups from 8.5 version onwards.

Groups are either internal TW groups or LDAP/Active Directory Group of Users mostly using Websphere VMM.

The Team Filter Service can be executed on per task assignment basis with parameters supplied that are specific to that specific instance of the process.  For example, if I want to assign a task based on the language spoken by the customer, I would choose the potential owners of that task with a team filter service located at the point where the task is created
